The infamous statue

Somebody sent me a link to an article with this photo of the proposed West Virginia female veteran statue. I don't know what kind of crazy bag that is she is wearing on her hip, but other than that, I think it looks good.

However...I do think her face is a little bit too manly-looking. Most military women don't look super-tough, square-jawed, man-like, or muscle-y.

We look like normal women who just so happen to be in the military. No one would look at me in civilian clothing and think, "Ooh! She's a Marine!" I feel like an undercover agent in civilian clothing because nobody would ever guess what my day job is!

Hmm...and also, I don't think I've ever seen a woman in the military wear her cammie pants all up tight in the crotch like that...

Ouch.

But all of that is better than a statue in a skirt and heels.

I believe the bag is something we called a "stuff sack" when I was over there last year. Like the name implies, you put stuff in it. Anything, really. A lot of my combat engineers used them on missions to hold nails, screws, and other small pieces/parts. They're good for police call, too.

Wait, now that I look at it again, I believe it is a gas mask carrier. Look at the angle of the strap coming off the top and the strap coming off and wrapping around her leg. Yup, NBC mask.

Also that pouch on the front of her belt looks like it would be mighty uncomfortable if she were to sit down. But I like that she's obviously a soldier.

I think its awesome. Over all it looks good. Her boobies are funny looking to me though, lol. ;p

That's ok.
I change my mind. That's fine.

Where's that regulation hair bun?

What's that stick? Isn't a rifle better? I thought all Marines are riflemen first.

The stick is a flag, the flag didn't fit in the photo I guess.

Maybe she has short hair, hence no hair bun, a lot of females do that. Or it could be small and just not visible.

The boobies look a little funny, but that's how the shirt makes them look usually. It looks better if you wear a more closely-fitting t-shirt though.

I like that she looks ready to work... she should have a rifle or a shovel instead of a flag with the T-shirt... I'd like that even better. Real women work in the military! (and most dress uniforms for women look like cheap stewardess-wannabes anyway.. yuk!)

lets remember this is West Virginia, so maybe the artist wanted her to look more like a miner. The jaw line reminds me of one of those female athletes that got booted out of the Olympics for steroid use, are marines allowed to use them?

PS since we are so opinionated on this statue I think the committee should appoint all of us!!!!!!

I'm just glad someone decided to do a statue of a military woman that wasn't a nurse.....

I agree about the flag, or guidon. Most of us don't think of that when we think of a soldier. She should have a weapon in her hand, or, and a pistol on her thigh. I say "soldier" because she seems to be wearing an army cover.

Maybe it is for her gas mask. I remember wearing one on my leg like that, but it was more uncomfortable looking and squarish.

I think that we are splitting hairs on the issue. Her face is just a face - my face structure is quite similar, and no one questions my sex.
