Me...

I am a female Marine sergeant who got off the Marine Security Guard program and just got out of the Marine Corps, though I still have some time in the IRR. I went to boot camp in March of 2003 and graduated that June. After that I did Marine Combat Training and completed the Supply Administration course. Prior to being accepted into the MSG program, I was stationed in Okinawa for one year and then in Albany, Georgia for a year and a half and while I was assigned to Albany I deployed for a six-month tour in Iraq. The three countries I was stationed in as an MSG were Finland, Honduras, and Egypt.

I am originally from Montgomery County, Maryland, which is located directly west of Washington, DC. Before I joined the Marine Corps I went to three different colleges, worked at a garden center, did some overseas volunteer work, and a lot of traveling.

My main hobbies are reading, writing, photography, languages, working on my various website projects, hanging out with people, and watching movies. I like cheese, bread, chicken, broccoli, hugs, cats, sharks, meerkats, throwing snowballs at unsuspecting folks, and driving my car around too fast. I don't like octopuses, Swiss cheese, rye bread, people who complain about how uninteresting or stupid they are, being bored, and being cold.

My car is a pretty black Honda Accord with many mysterious scratches on the doors and a funny scrape on the back bumper where someone apparently ran into it. My three ferrets, my beta fish, and my hermit crab have all died but the two cats I had before boot camp, Ari and Arwen, have moved in with my aunt and forgotten about me.

I don't like the word blog. I used to keep an online journal years ago before I'd ever heard that word and I eventually got around to posting those old entries on this blog. For the most part this journal exists because I like to write. I like to write down the things I do or things that happen to me or things I notice during the course of the day. I am easily amused by the little oddities of life, like the fact that my grandma keeps a Taco Bell Chihuahua sitting on top of her Bible, so I write them down. Going back later on and reading what I wrote makes me laugh. The other reason I started this is so my friends and family can read it and know what I'm up to, and I enjoy reading their comments.

I couldn't write much about the last few years of my Marine Corps life because of MSG duty's strict OpSec rules so now that I'm out, you'll have to read about my reentry into civilian life. I don't write about politics very much the way many other blogs do. There's not a whole lot I can say that hasn't been said already and I do not want my website to turn into a whiny, intolerant partisan stomping ground instead of being a website about daily life.
